"The hat became my glory... to triumph over pain"

joey boy

Scripted by Garry Morris and directed by Don Kinch, this new play features an original score by Deirdre Pascall that underpins an exuberant cast of professional singers and dancers. This production is a celebration of an individual's determination and eccentricity.

Joey Boy, tells the story of one Joseph Johnson, a wounded merchant seaman who found fame as a black street performer. Trying to rebuild his life after his ship was hit by cannon fire, we see Joseph dragged into the 19th century London low-life before his natural dignity helps him to connect with his more artistic instincts. With his trademark ship's hat on his head the transformation into Joey Boy, entertainer (and parlour seducer) is complete.

Location: CAP Centre Admission: £5.00
